Still Waiting....
Dear Mr. Rosindell, I am writing to you to request that you look into the way the council treats the residents of Dorset Avenue. Today (5th April bank holiday) they chose to send a parking warden through our road who issued tickets residents who had parked outside their homes. This has had a very angry effect on the residents who feel that they have been targeted unfairly in a bid to make money for the council. The area is a single yellow line which purpose is to prevent parking outside the nearby school of St. Peters which is understandable but you very rarely see wardens arguing with parents who are dropping off children, the more normal state of affairs is seeing arguments between parents who park across bays arguing with people who are trying to leave for work. Why the council chose 10am on a bank holiday Monday to suddenly decide that parking enforcement in Dorset Avenue is unclear but I can only imagine that it may be something to do with the fact that: a) The wardens have not got to argue with irate parents who may make his day a bad one. b) People who live in the street would be relaxing and not realizing that they were being ticketed allowing the warden to get away without interruption making his day an easy one. It seems very unfair to me and also a way of making a quick buck for the council with a minimum of hassle for those involved. The council seems to care little for our needs as we have in the past requested permits for us to park or the changing of the signs to allow us bank holiday access and does not recognize our right to be allowed to live along Dorset Avenue with a minimum of fuss or molestation. We rarely see a warden enforcing the law during the week when we are trying to leave our homes for work when having them around would actually help us but instead see him when it is an easy pay day for the council with no risk or hassle involved. However I must say that I think that today of all days may not have been a good time for the council to decide that Dorset Avenue was in a special need of urgent parking management. As the warden left leaving us talking bewilderedly in the street clutching our new tickets another council worker came along the street posting our polling slips through the letterboxes. I am sure you can imagine our reaction as we stood there with our parking tickets in one hand and our polling slips in the other. Not really good timing or a good advert for the council at all. Your vote Conservative leaflet that came in the post with the polling slips claims that: "working with Andrew Rosindell MP have reversed many years of decline under Labour and their Residents Association friends" At least I know with the Residents Association from their local news letter that at least they will argue on behalf of Dorset Avenue residents for local issues such as the speeding that goes on along the road and also parking troubles we have, they care from the point of view of the people living nearby. So far what has the Conservative party done to me in this area? We have a nightlife in the town centre that is frankly dangerous and now have a hotel being being at the end North Street which will only make my life as a road user in the surrounding area more of a problem than it normally is. I would appreciate it if you took this matter further with those concerned with the planning of this particular foray into Dorset Avenue road management and find out why it was deemed necessary to target us on a bank holiday instead of between 8-9am and 3-4pm on a school day. I would also appreciate it if you find out why we cannot have permits even if they only allowed limited access. Currently it is not fair and can only be viewed as a money spinner for the council at the expense of the people living here. |

Are they playing God?
A HIGHLY controversial health practice which opponents say "plays God" with dying patients could soon be rolled out to all wards at Queen's Hospital. The Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) encourages medics to remove treatment - including fluids, food and medication - from patients deemed close to death. Patient may also be placed on continuous deep sedation until they pass away. The scheme is currently in play in 40 per-cent of adult wards in the Rom Valley Way hospital, with 17-per-cent of patients dying under the scheme, Havering Council's health overview and scrutiny committee heard on Tuesday evening. New proposals could see it introduced to all adult wards - but there are widespread fears the scheme is open to abuse. |

Farewell to Mardyke, hello to Orchard
IT was the end of an era this week as demolition work began on the first tower block on the Mardyke Estate. The tearing away of the top floor of the 12-storey building also heralded the moment the Mardyke officially became Orchard Village. It was the first stage of one of the most important developments in Rainham's history - in which the 1960s sink estate will be reborn as an £80million village with 555 new homes built over the next six years. Doris Taylor watched as the building she has lived in for the plast 41 years was ripped apart, dust from the rubble settling in her hair. She admitted it was sad to see her home slowly crumbling before her eyes, but quickly added her full backing for the regeneration. |
Man, 24, dies in car smash
A YOUNG man who lost two of his best friends in a road accident six years ago has died after his car crashed into a ditch in a country lane. David Griffin, 24 from Granton Avenue, Upminster was found in the upside down car in Aveley Road, Upminster, on Monday at 4.30am. Police received a call from a passer-by saying there were two people trapped in the car and they soon arrived at the scene. But a search of the area failed to find any other victim. Firefighters from Hornchurch and Wennington fire stations arrived at 4.50am and removed the car from the water. Red Watch Manager Gary Bush, from Hornchurch station, said: "When we got there the car was lying upside down in a ditch full of water." | ||
